Government Support to U.S. Farmers Less Than Other Nations

A new report released last week by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development shows an interesting finding: U.S. farmers get much less government support compared to farmers of other nations.

The report, Agricultural Policies in OECD Countries, says government support to farmers in the United States rose to 10 percent of total farm receipts in 2009, up from 8 percent in 2008. This compares to 24 percent in the European Union in 2009, up from 22 percent in 2008.
