The American Farm Bureau Federation, USA Rice Federation and nearly 100 other organizations with interest in agriculture, business, travel and human rights are urging the House Agriculture Committee to approve H.R. 4645, the Travel Restrictions Reform and Enhancement Act.
The bill would clarify how sales of farm products by U.S. farmers and agricultural businesses are conducted. In addition, travel by U.S. citizens to Cuba would be “consistent with their ability to [travel] to every other country, including other U.S.-sanctioned countries.” The bill would not repeal the U.S. embargo or lift U.S. credit restrictions on Cuba.
Coalition members noted in the letter to the committee that modest changes outlined in the bill would establish and protect U.S. agriculture’s reputation as a reliable supplier and provide the opportunity to grow U.S. agricultural sales to Cubs.
