Peru Trade Deal Bearing Fruit

The USDA says the U.S. – Peru Trade Promotion Agreement has yielded some clear winners in its first year. Despite economic turmoil in both countries, U.S. Ag exports to Peru were at an all-time high of $530 million or 22% more than 2008.

According to Feedstuffs, commodities leading the larger numbers were corn, beef and poultry.

The agreement provided for duty-free trade of corn leading to a jump of 167%. Beef came in with a 9% increase and poultry enjoyed its first entry into the Peruvian marketplace with sales totaling $2.2 million.
