Global Warming Debate Heats Up In East Coast Blizzard

Skeptics of global warming say record snow for the East Coast is proof that the planet is not warming, while proponents of global warming claim that blizzards are erratic weather patterns that prove the planet is warming.

However, many climate scientists say the blizzards in the Northeast no more prove that the planet is cooling than the lack of snow in Vancouver or the downpours in Southern California prove that it is warming.

In the meantime, Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla), the Senate’s leading climate change skeptic, built a six-foot igloo on Capitol Hill and put a cardboard sign on top that read “Al Gore’s New Home.” In an e-mail, Inhofe said the extreme weather reinforced doubts about scientists’ conclusion that global warming was “unequivocal” and most likely caused by human activity.
