Colorado Dairies File Bankruptcy

According to the Denver Post, at least six Colorado dairies have sought bankruptcy protection this year, and several more farms are planning similar actions, industry experts say.

The moves are necessary to weather the twin storms of New Frontier Bank’s collapse and sinking commodity prices. Of the six filing for Chapter 11, four are past customers of the now defunct New Frontier Bank in Greeley.

Bob Winter, a member of the Colorado Farm Bureau, said he is aware of six farms — two in Weld County — preparing to file Chapter 11.

“There’s a few more coming,” he said, declining to reveal their names.
